    Trump calls off a planned attack on Iran, saying the 'perimeters of a deal' are agreed

    Trump wrote on Truth Social that Iran 'and other Middle Eastern Countries' had asked him to hold off because 'the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to,' and that he would cancel the attack 'subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL' including the full reopening of Hormuz and 'an end to Iran's nuclear threat.' The next day he said negotiations would begin Monday and that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar had asked him to call it off; Iranian state-linked media denied Tehran had asked for anything, and acting Defence Minister Majid Ebn-e-Reza said the pullback was made 'within the context of psychological operations and a war of calculations.'

    IRGC says it hit two tankers; Iran's strait authority says Hormuz transit 'not possible'

    The IRGC said it 'struck and stopped' two tankers it claimed were under U.S. aerial escort and that four others turned back. Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority then said transit 'is not currently possible' because of U.S. military actions and that permits would resume only 'once stability and calm are restored'; CENTCOM replied that the strait 'remains open' and 'Iran does not control it.'

    LNG carrier GasLog Shanghai disabled by projectile off Oman after leaving Hormuz

    UKMTO said a tanker hit by an unknown projectile about 11 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman, suffered engine-room damage and was not under command, with no casualties. Bloomberg, citing security firms and ship tracking, identified it as the LNG carrier GasLog Shanghai, loaded with Qatari cargo; the next day UKMTO reported a large splash and explosion near another tanker northwest of Khasab.

    CENTCOM says its blockade has turned back 24 ships, disabled two and boarded two

    CENTCOM said it had redirected 24 commercial vessels since restarting the blockade of Iranian ports on July 14, up from 20 a day earlier, and had boarded two ships and fired on two others to disable them. Only five vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz the next day, all on Iran's approved northern route, according to marine traffic data cited by CNN.

    14 countries back a Saudi-led 'Maritime Defense Alliance' to protect shipping

    Saudi Arabia's defense ministry said Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia issued a joint statement backing a multinational alliance to protect shipping routes, after a meeting attended by military chiefs and representatives of 43 countries and an EU delegation. Saudi Arabia is to found and lead the alliance and host its headquarters.

    U.S. hits dozens of IRGC targets in retaliation; blasts at Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Kish

    CENTCOM said strikes began at 8 p.m. ET as 'a powerful response' to Iran's missile attack and that the 'heavy wave' hit dozens of IRGC targets, including command centers, missile and drone facilities and coastal defenses. Iranian media reported explosions at Qeshm, Kish, Bandar Abbas, Abadan and Bushehr, and the IRGC said the strait would stay closed and 'the aggressor will be punished today.'

    Drone strike sets gas ships on fire at Egypt's Damietta LNG terminal

    An explosion during cargo discharge at the LNG terminal in Damietta, on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, damaged the Energos Winter storage and regasification vessel and the GasLog Salem tanker, which were moved offshore. Egypt's cabinet said the next day a preliminary inquiry found a drone caused the fire; no one claimed it, and the Houthis denied involvement.

    U.S. sanctions IRGC-backed firms selling mandatory 'insurance' for Hormuz transits

    Treasury designated the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority, which it said sell IRGC-approved policies ships must buy to cross the strait, covering risks such as seizures that Iran itself creates, with payment accepted in digital assets. It also sanctioned eight companies operating shadow-fleet tankers that carried Iranian oil and petrochemicals to China and the UAE.

    CENTCOM said U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft struck militia logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq in response to more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks in 72 hours on U.S. forces and Saudi energy sites, and Saudi Arabia called its role 'limited, targeted strikes.' The Popular Mobilisation Forces said at least 20 fighters were killed and 32 wounded at headquarters in Baghdad, Basra, Kirkuk and other provinces.

    Trump says Tehran asked for the pause; Iran says no talks exist

    Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that the U.S. halted strikes because Iran asked: "They asked us very nicely, 'Please stop, let's meet.'" Earlier that day Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said "We currently have no negotiations with the United States," describing talks with Oman on Hormuz traffic as Iran's only channel, while AP reported that Qatari and Pakistani mediators had made significant progress toward restarting U.S.-Iran talks.
