UKMTO said a tanker hit by an unknown projectile about 11 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman, suffered engine-room damage and was not under command, with no casualties. Bloomberg, citing security firms and ship tracking, identified it as the LNG carrier GasLog Shanghai, loaded with Qatari cargo; the next day UKMTO reported a large splash and explosion near another tanker northwest of Khasab.
Why it matters
Qatari LNG had only just resumed crossing the strait, with one cargo passing on July 30 for the first time in nearly three weeks.
