Israeli jets struck what Israel called Hezbollah's central headquarters beneath residential buildings in Haret Hreik, in Beirut's southern suburbs, on the evening of Sept. 27, levelling six buildings. Israel announced Nasrallah's death the next day and Hezbollah confirmed it later on Sept. 28.
Why it matters
Losing the leader who had run Hezbollah for more than 32 years left open who could accept or enforce any Lebanon settlement, a question that still shapes ceasefire talks.
