U.S. Central Command said its forces had completed strikes on Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems and air defence sites across Iran, with Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy assets firing precision munitions. It called the strikes a response to Iran's 'unwarranted and continued aggression'; Iranian media reported explosions in Tehran, Bandar Abbas and along the Hormuz coast.
Why it matters
It was the second straight night of U.S. strikes after the downing of an Apache helicopter over Hormuz that Trump blamed on Iran, the most serious breach yet of the April 8 ceasefire, and Iran fired back at Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan within hours.
