Iranian attack hits Kuwait airport radar as Kuwait briefly shuts its airspace

Kuwait's army said air defences engaged 'hostile aerial targets' after the IRGC claimed strikes on U.S. forces at Ali Al Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber air bases, and the civil aviation authority closed the airspace and diverted flights for several hours. The army later said it had handled 24 Iranian drones in two days with limited damage and no casualties, but the aviation authority told ICAO that the attack had hit Kuwait International Airport's radar that morning, injuring people and seriously damaging air-traffic equipment.

Why it matters

The letter to ICAO contradicted the army's no-casualty account and showed Iran's retaliation for U.S. strikes landing on Gulf civil infrastructure, a week after an Iranian strike on the same airport killed one person.
