Israeli dawn strikes on a house near Ansar and on Deir ez-Zahrani in the Nabatieh district killed at least 11 people, including women and children, and wounded 19, Lebanon's Health Ministry said. Israel said it was responding to a Hezbollah explosive-drone attack that wounded three soldiers, and said it killed Radwan Force battalion commander Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan at Ansar; on Aug. 16 it said it had also killed Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's Badr unit.

Why it matters

President Joseph Aoun called the strikes 'a clear message to the negotiation track,' and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the children killed in Ansar 'are not military infrastructure.' The commanders' identities rest on Israeli military statements.
