    Iran's army chief offers $30,000 for killing or capturing a U.S. soldier

    Army chief Maj. Gen. Amir Hatami said at a ceremony in Tehran that anyone who kills or captures and hands over 'an invading American military personnel' will receive the equivalent of $30,000, or 5 billion tomans, doubled if the act is carried out by a woman. He also said U.S. forces will not be allowed back into the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman or the Strait of Hormuz, calling control of the strait a 'sacred' lever for ending the war.

    Iran says Qatar has held three of its pilots since March; Qatar denies it

    Gen. Mohammad Bagherzadeh, who leads the Iranian armed forces' missing-persons committee, wrote to the Red Cross that Qatari forces captured three Iranian pilots, whom he named, after two Su-24 bombers were downed attacking the U.S. base at Al Udeid in March. Qatar's foreign ministry 'categorically' denied detaining them, said its search teams recovered remains and coordinated handing over one pilot's body, and said Iran never answered an April invitation to be briefed.

    Israeli strikes kill 11 in south Lebanon, the deadliest day since the June truce

    Israeli dawn strikes on a house near Ansar and on Deir ez-Zahrani in the Nabatieh district killed at least 11 people, including women and children, and wounded 19, Lebanon's Health Ministry said. Israel said it was responding to a Hezbollah explosive-drone attack that wounded three soldiers, and said it killed Radwan Force battalion commander Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan at Ansar; on Aug. 16 it said it had also killed Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's Badr unit.

    Yemen's government said the Houthis fired six ballistic missiles at Mokha port on Friday evening; a military official told AFP five hit commercial ships unloading there and six people were killed, while the port director put the toll at three, including two marines. The director said on Saturday that operations were suspended after more than 25 missiles in recent attacks caused about $16 million in losses.

    ADNOC said two of its vessels were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening, Aug. 13, with no injuries, and the UAE foreign ministry blamed a 'hostile Iranian attack,' calling it 'piracy' by the IRGC; UKMTO reported two drone strikes on outbound tankers with minor damage. On Friday evening ADNOC said a third vessel was attacked, which the UAE also blamed on Iran.

    U.S. says it will complete its troop withdrawal from Iraq by Sept. 30

    After meeting CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said Sept. 30 is the 'fixed and final date' for ending the anti-ISIS coalition's mission and withdrawing its forces, and a U.S. official confirmed the U.S. expects to finish its pullout by then. U.S. forces now remain mainly in the Kurdistan region, where their bases have been attacked repeatedly since the war began.

    IEA sees 2026 oil demand falling 1.6 million barrels a day as Hormuz stays shut

    The International Energy Agency cut its 2026 forecast to a fall in global oil demand of 1.6 million barrels a day, from 1 million a month earlier, saying 'the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz and elevated fuel prices continue to weigh on oil consumption.' It put July supply at 101.5 million barrels a day, still 6.3 million below pre-war levels.

    U.S. extends its energy-shipping waiver for 90 days

    Trump extended for 90 days, from Aug. 17, the Jones Act waiver he first issued on March 17, letting foreign-flagged ships carry oil, fuels, fertilizer and related cargo between U.S. ports. Unlike earlier extensions it covers only energy and agricultural cargo, and the Pentagon will consult the Maritime Administration on which voyages qualify.

    Trump answers Iran's compensation demand with a U.S. compensation demand of his own

    After Iran's security council made war compensation a condition for reopening the strait, Trump wrote that he was 'likewise demanding compensation from Iran' for people killed and wounded by its 'roadside bombs,' the 17 sailors killed on the USS Cole and protesters killed in Iran, and later added damages in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza. He said he had told his negotiators to put this 'firmly into any, and all, future negotiations.'
