U.S. officials and sources told CBS News that an armed Iranian Shahed drone struck the Apache, and a U.S. official later told AP the helicopter went down after colliding with an Iranian drone, adding that it was not clear whether the collision was intentional. CENTCOM's public statements said the cause remained under investigation.
Why it matters
The accounts backed Washington's case for its strikes while leaving open whether Iran meant to hit the aircraft, as Tehran denied any deliberate attack.
