The Israeli army's Arabic-language spokesperson ordered residents of Tyre, including the Christian quarter for the first time, and of surrounding areas and the Rashidieh, Burj Shemali and al-Bass camps to move north of the Zahrani River, citing Hezbollah activity in the quarter. Hundreds fled the Christian district, civil defence crews moved older residents, and the heads of Tyre's churches appealed to the international community and President Aoun to prevent an attack on the Christian district.

Why it matters

Tyre is Lebanon's fifth-largest city and had been sheltering displaced families; the order turned repeated strikes on its outskirts into a city-wide displacement.
