IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said about 6,000 seafarers remained stranded on hundreds of ships in the Gulf, condemned the attacks on ships crossing Hormuz over the previous two days as having placed them 'in grave danger', and urged flag states and owners to avoid the strait while crews' safety could not be assured.

Why it matters

The IMO's evacuation plan, paused after the Ever Lovely attack in June, had not restarted, and the renewed fighting left those crews with no safe way out.
