After Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's talks in Muscat, Oman said the two countries would continue technical and political talks on navigation under international law. Sources told Al Jazeera that Oman again proposed two separately controlled routes, one through Iranian and one through Omani waters, while Iran insisted on a single management involving both countries.

Why it matters

Tehran feared that with two routes ships would all choose Omani waters and leave it without leverage, and that night the IRGC declared the strait closed.
