Israel orders 20 south Lebanon villages to evacuate, then strikes kill at least five

The Israeli military ordered residents of 20 towns and villages in the Nabatieh and Jezzine districts, including Deir al-Zahrani and Nabatieh al-Fawqa, to move north of the Zahrani River. Strikes that followed killed at least five people, including one in Maarakeh, the mayor of Rihan and two in Deir al-Zahrani, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.

Why it matters

The escalation came as Iran assured Lebanon it would be included in any U.S. deal, and it widened the area Israel told civilians to leave.
