Iranian media said the IRGC stopped a 'violating tanker' from entering the Strait of Hormuz without coordination and that it complied after warnings; a military source linked explosions heard off Sirik and near Bandar Abbas to the confrontation, though IRNA said no blasts occurred in Bandar Abbas. State TV had also reported an unexplained explosion at sea off Sirik that afternoon.
Why it matters
It came hours after Trump said Hormuz would open as soon as a deal was signed, showing Iran still enforcing its own transit rules.

Correction
- Corrected the time from 2:39 AM Tehran time, Jun 12, 2026 to 1:47 AM Tehran time, Jun 12, 2026; corrected the headline (it read "Iran-linked reports tie Hormuz blasts to tanker warning"); revised the summary; revised the context note; corrected the location from Strait of Hormuz / Sirik and Bandar Abbas, Iran to Strait of Hormuz, off Sirik, Iran; reclassified it from incident to maritime-security; updated the sourcing note; merged a duplicate entry into this one ("Blast reported at sea near Sirik on Hormuz edge"); added 3 sources: The Guardian live blog; removed UKMTO recent incidents as a source (a rolling index page that now shows other content).
