Two regional sources told Reuters the UAE had agreed to release $10 billion in Iranian funds, more than $3 billion of it already delivered, and two others put the total at $20 billion, in return for a halt to Iranian attacks on the UAE. The UAE foreign ministry denied that any frozen Iranian funds had been released or transferred.
Why it matters
Frozen assets were one of the main open issues in the U.S.-Iran talks, and the UAE had been among the Gulf states hit hardest by Iranian fire.
