UKMTO said a tanker was struck by a projectile and caught fire about 70 nautical miles from Al Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia, with no casualties. The Houthis said they hit the Saudi tankers Encelia and Layla for breaking the maritime embargo they declared on July 20, and Saudi state media confirmed the Encelia, owned by a Saudi company, was hit and set on fire at the bow, with its crew safe.

Why it matters

It was the first strike under the Houthi embargo on the Red Sea route Saudi Arabia has used to export crude around the Strait of Hormuz; Brent rose as much as 5 percent the next morning.
