LNG tanker abandoned and a Saudi tanker damaged in one night

The Qatari-owned LPG tanker Al Rekayyat was abandoned after a fire in its engine room, and the Saudi-flagged oil tanker Wedyan was damaged by projectiles in the strait. The Joint Maritime Information Center cited both in raising its Strait of Hormuz threat level to severe.

Why this matters. Abandoning a loaded gas carrier mid-strait is the outcome the whole convoy system exists to prevent, and it began the 48 hours that ended the interim deal.
